BIOGRAPHY
Nicci Colucy, 21, graduated from Bolingbrook High School on June 2, 2013. She is currently attending Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois and has taken her place on the field with the Panther Marching Band as the feature twirler for the Panther Marching Band for the past 3 years! Go Panthers! She is helping bring back a long standing tradition of twirling as the first feature twirler for EIU since 1990. Nicola feels EIU is an excellent match of her academic goals as well as baton twirling, marching band, dance, and sports interest. Nicola has finished her junior year strong and is well on her way as a senior in just a few short weeks. As a Kinesiology and Sports Studies majoring in Sports Management she is also working on a unique double minor in Health Communications and Business. Hoping to focus on corporate health in a business setting soon! In 2014 Nicci, achieved a long time twirling goal. She was crowned the 2014 Intermediate Miss Majorette of Illinois and again in 2015 she earned a runner up to the Miss College Majorette of Illinois. Her achievements include multiple State and Midwest Regional titles. In addition, Nicci is a four time Jr Olympic Gold Medalist and earned her first college twirling medal in the 2013 Jr. Olympics. Twirling since the age of 5 and competing since age 7, Nicci has worked extremely hard too continually perfect her sport. The AAU Jr Olympic Games hold a very special place in her heart for its dedication exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports and physical fitness programs. Nicola was recently quoted, "Being part of this organization over the past decade has molded and shaped me for my lifelong career choice"! Nicci has been featured in the newspaper many times throughout her the years for her accomplishments. As feature twirler for the Bolingbrook Marching Raiders, she has performed with the band at all home BHS football games and at all Boys & Lady Raider home basketball games. She is best known for twirling fire batons during the football half-time show and for catching a baton mid-field which is fired from a canon during the Raider fight song! As the feature twirler for EIU, Nicci performs at football games, pep rallies, parades, basketball games and special events. expect to see her during Basketball season too, as she supports the Panther Pep Band to cheer on the Panthers! Nicci’s talent has opened many doors for her to share her personal story. Nicci was diagnosed at 2 -1/2 yrs old with a Central Auditory Processing Disorder. Since 2007, after winning a spokes model competition, she has been dedicated to raising awareness about this disorder and the importance of early diagnosis, treatment, the services available through public school districts and overcoming the misunderstandings associated with her disorder. She includes it as her platform when competing in twirling and scholarship competitions and hopes to increase her work in this area after graduating from Eastern. . Another little known fact is that Nicci is a musician. This is pretty rare for twirlers. She plays piano, guitar, trombone and a number of percussion instruments including her favorite hand drums! As a member of the Vineyard Church Worship Team you can catch her in action on Sunday mornings. She has won awards at the “Pemberton’s Got Talent” contest for two consecutive years playing buckets and metal chairs!! Nicci has been employed as a STARGUARD lifeguard and a swim instructor in at the Bolingbrook Park Aquatics Center for three seasons. She just completed an internship as the Aquatics Intern and was able to learn all aspects of running a community swim and athletic facility. She a Certified Nurse Assistant and certified in Red Cross CPR also. |
