Someone recently asked me about my journey back to the Jr. Olympics this year and I quickly flashed back to the weeks leading up to my first experience. Although I have been to 4 previous games, I am just as excited as I was that first time.
I am attaching a newsletter my Mom created at that time below. The article and picture were from a press release that appeared in my hometown newspaper.
In 2009, I earned a personal Gold Medal for my X-strut. I was the first to compete that morning and I was so nervous. My Dad still tells the story with such excitement as he heard my name called for the Gold Medal that night. My mom cried. In 2011 and 2013, I earned medals again and I graduated High School.
in 2016, I am going back as the feature twirler of Eastern Illinois University. I am looking forward to the next few weeks as I prepare to be there again. Just like previous years, I am proud and want everyone to go on this journey with me for my final Jr. Olympic Games.
Being part of the AAU Jr. Olympic Games holds a special place in my heart for its dedication exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports and physical fitness programs. Being part of this organization over the past decade has molded and shaped me for my life long career choice. I cannot image not being there for this 50th Anniversary year! In May 2017, I will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from the Department of Kinesiology and Sports Studies. My major is Sports Management and I have a unique double minor of Health Communications and Business to prepare me for a career in fitness and health. Currently, I am finishing up an exciting Aquatics Internship with the Award Winning Bolingbrook Park District.
I look forward to competing in the College All Around and in helping with this year’s Twirling Showcase. Helping young twirlers capture that joy that I first experienced and to learn about how the AAU experience can impact their life long dreams is most important to me this trip.
I feel very blessed to have this opportunity and to represent Eastern Illinois University, the Panther Marching Band, the Bolingbrook Park District, my hometown, Bolingbrook, Illinois, and my family.
Thanking you in advance for your prayer and consideration in helping me with my travel expenses this year: https://www.gofundme.com/2czsavw
